Queen Elizabeth destroyed all of Scotland’s dragons, and killed the female mates just to make sure! Those escaping hid, but magic calls to magic and eventually many more were found. Then one day, a young nun ran to Abbess Alana saying that Fiona had spied a large dragon! As everyone ran out to see, Alana recognized the danger. She could not get the women back into the convent fast enough before the red dragon attacked. Trying to do something to stop the slaughter, she grabbed a stick and jumped on the dragon’s back. She climbed to his head and jammed the stick in his ear. He shook the stick out and grabbed her, flying high and continuing to destroy the convent with her held in his claws.The dragon flew back to England and changed to his human form. Lord Kendrick announced that Alana was to be his wife, but he would take her in the meantime as he wanted. Fortunately, those plans were interrupted by a summons from the Queen.
Alana meets the stable man, James, a fellow Scot. He offers to help but needs her to find a black spell book so they can destroy Kendrick. But the spell book, when she finally finds it, burns her hands and she can’t put it down! James appeared at the window but it was warded against him, so Alana had to kick out the windows. Flames caught the curtain on fire, and the fire on her hands burned wildly! Could she be saved from the magical fire before she was fully engulfed? Would Kendrick reappear to punish or kill her for her actions? Or would she and James be able to escape the fierce, angry dragon?
This was a well-written, exciting book! The characters were well described – I immediately hated Kendrick (although I adore dragons normally) because of his high-handedness and cruelty. I count that as a sign of good writing to evoke such strong reactions in the reader! I thoroughly recommend this book! You won’t regret the decision to read it.

Michelle Fox is one of my go to authors when I want to escape from the real world. Her writing is strong enough to make me forget for a while and totally get lost in the story. This book is just as strong as the rest of her books that I have read. Characters that draw you in and a plot, a real plot that makes you want to know the end. I lost track of time and read it beginning to end, who needs sleep anyways. The only I only gave it four stars is since I have started to do more reviews and want to save my five stars for those amazing outstanding over the top books. This book is great and wonderful and does what I like reading to do. Don't skip it because I gave it four stars.... I still loved it. Can't wait to see what she writes next.
Michelle Fox took the history of Queen Elizabeth l & Mary Queen of Scots, threw it in a whirlpool, added Dragons, Mages and Dragon Maids and tossed out a beguiling story of Alana and James, and their quest to save Scotland from the last , evil Red Dragon . Short, fast paced read with lots of license taken with the history of the time, but that's what made it such a fun read. You do need a strong stomach for how the Red Dragon kills and treats the women of Scotland and in his home, just know he gets a good swift kick in the bollocks before its all said and done. 4⭐️'s for a delightful paranormal romance.

Most definitely a different type of Dragon Shifter Romance tales. Starts off kinda shocking but don't let it shock you into thinking it's a dark fearful story. After a few pages you start to get the true gist of the story.
It's like a fight against good verses evil, red Dragon verses Blue Dragon and the maiden who loves one and hates the other.
Tells about how the first Dragon was made and about the maiden who calmed them.
Enjoyed the way the author mixed in the mystical, the past with touches of truth but with a neat twist.

A tale of magic and maidens and overcoming evil personified.
The author departs from 'usual' dragon fare with this well-told story. The concepts are fresh and exciting. It makes me crave more of the world she envisions. The hero is big and bold; the heroine is strong and brave, yet innocent. Finding and following the hero she needs is quite an adventure. Her story is sure to warm the cockles of your heart!

Then Alana meets James Mage by training. Some sparks erupts between Alana and James with some spicy sex. Somehow James must slay the dragon who has claimed Alana and keep the old ways burning bright for Scotland without killing them both. I have to say that I really had a dislike for Kendrick!! To find out what happens you will need to read this great book by Michelle Fox.
Wow I absolutely loved this spin on history between Scotland and England's war with one another. So the Queens each had a dragon army and Elizabeth's army was able to defeat Mary's army of dragons. Alana is the last maiden of Scotland she dreamed only of finding her dragon and having a family. She had to flee and go into hiding but Kendrick a red dragon of Queen Elizabeth found her little abbey of maidens and destroyed them all but kept her for himself as she was strong. Once Kendrick takes her to his castle if you will she meets James the groom and discovers a fellow Scotsmen. Their story of love takes on a turn even I wasn't expecting.
I really enjoyed Ms. Fox's captivating story of an alternate to actual history. Her twists and turns kept me scrolling through and took me away from my pain for just a little while. I've read a few of her stories and so far have not been disappointed in any way.
